Mexican Gothic
MEXICAN GOTHIC ruined a night of sleep for me after I stayed up too late to finish it and then was paralyzed with fear by every sound in the night. It is everything I could have hoped for in a gothic novel, with whispers of Wuthering Heights and set at a creepy old mansion complete with a backyard cemetery. Moreno-Garcia breathes life into the lush and mist covered mountainous countryside of Mexico and peppers this story with levity in the form of Noemi’s humor and gorgeous descriptions of her 1950s dresses. This novel is scary & brilliant.
