About the Event:

Writers for Democratic Action, Miami’s FREADOM Coalition and the Miami Freedom Project join forces to present the performance of IT CAN’T HAPPEN HERE–AGAIN!,  a new play resisting the rise of authoritarianism.

On Friday, July 19th, the day after The Republican Party will nominate Donald Trump as its candidate for President of the United States, our group will stage one of 58 simultaneous productions taking place in living rooms, bookstores, theaters, libraries, community centers, parks, and places of worship all across America. These readings will stand against the nomination that could destroy democracy

It Can’t Happen Here—Again! is inspired by the Sinclair Lewis play It Can’t Happen Here, which made headlines in 1936 as a New Deal rallying cry against the rise of fascism in the US.

The Miami performance is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC and will take place at the Coral Gables Congregational Church, featuring: Kristian Bikcic, Peter Mir, Carmen Pelaez, Everlyn Perez, Krystal Millie Valdes and directed by Carmen Pelaez. The one-act play lasts thirty minutes.

It Can’t Happen Here – Again! is a powerful defense of the freedom to vote, to participate in democracy, and to raise our voices in protest and celebration.

Carmen Pelaez said, “We are here to say that democracy must survive in our country.  We invite everyone to join us in this nationwide event.  It is a call to action and a call to vote.”
