When TV personality Sandy Bodeau announced on social media that her family was expanding, congratulations poured in from various parts of the world. When she had a miscarriage 24 hours later, Sandy knew that she had to tell the world that she had failed. That was the second time that she had lost a child.
What Sandy did not know was that by telling her story, it would transform her and the community of women who followed her. By opening up about her struggles, Sandy showed many other women that they were not alone. And many of these women began telling their stories for the first time.
That pushed Sandy to continue publicly sharing her journey, her hopes, and her pain, even as she suffered two more miscarriages. Nearly every day, women opened up to Sandy about their losses. Their willingness to come forward grew from her willingness to be honest and vulnerable. And Sandy’s social media community grew along with it.
The Light After Loss chronicles Sandy’s journey using the actual posts she shared on Instagram and comments from her followers. Each chapter reveals more of the details on what was really happening in her life at the time of each post, and features a real story from one of the women that shared with Sandy about their loss.
Throughout her journey, Sandy found strength from the women who confided in her. Comment after comment and private message after private message on her Instagram account, those women showed her the light. And it was a light so bright that it propelled Sandy forward when she felt powerless and lost.
It was the light that gave her the new voice that the world was listening to. And if Sandy could find light, maybe she could use her voice to help others find theirs too.
Whether you have suffered the loss of a child, or are the friend or loved one of someone who has, there is light after loss. This book reveals the path that Sandy took, and the helpful lessons she learned along the way. Join her in revisiting her journey so that the many women suffering in silence can find their light as well.
