You’ve been served!
How many people married for 56 years, and at the age of 75 have been served divorce papers and at a New Year’s Eve Party? That humiliation, followed by the dissolution of my long standing marriage inspired my book, or as I call it, a primer. (Prim-ur), an introduction to a study that teaches, not preaches*,
Divorced After 56 Years Why Am I Sooo Happy?
The start of that New Year was the birth of a new me, from what I learned I earned the right to give advice, with a smattering of zing, a touch of spice, my own style of humor, and a bit of sarcasm.
Like an unexpected heart attack, “Gray Divorce” is its own epidemic in America. One out of every three marriages is ending with, “I quit” rather than ”til death do us part”.
I always assumed, like finding out you have an incurable disease or having your identity stolen, “it will never happen to me.” Assume nothing! It can, and it did, for me and every person who reads this. My goal is to prevent the increasing number of elder divorcees and singles, male or female, from making the mistakes I made while tripping and slipping to my own finish line. It’s time to say, “Been there, done that”. Now, move on, let go and let the fun of being a party of one, begin!
*Why is this primer different from any other, you ask? We created a learn and laugh duo that never loses sight of what’s important, and how to get the best out of the rest of your life. One lived it, the other embellished it. B & R
About the Author:
Born in Hartford, Connecticut and raised in West Hartford. At the age of 12, I started babysitting and have worked ever since. Married right out of high school, at the age of 18, and then, long story short, moved from Brookline, Mass. to Florida, New York, and back to Florida, with steps and stops along the way. I’m the proud mother of two sons, and Grammy to one beautiful granddaughter. I became a Realtor in the 1970’s and after 40 years of being a top agent in Westchester County, the Upper Westside of NYC, and South Florida, I am looking for an exit sign. While selling co-ops in New York, I also managed a country singer and group, Ezze and the Manhattan Bay Trading Company, with Sammy Fields. I started writing in earnest after being served divorce papers, New Year’s Eve, with a house full of friends. That gave us something to chew on besides dinner. My marriage and missteps gave me an abundance of material to write about as I was finding out how to get my life on track on a single rail. Traveling, and learning other cultures in faraway places feeds my soul with thoughts to share. I enjoy being on my own, and to borrow a phrase from a Billy Joel song, “I like me just the way I am”. I wish I had a book like the one I wrote, Divorced after 56 Years, Why am I Sooo Happy? to have read before quitin’ time. It would have made my path to happiness easier. I am currently working on the sequel, Sex After 60 Sells.
