Banned Books Club is a space where young people can come together and discuss books that have been banned. Let’s fight censorship together!
About the Club:
Banned Books Club @ Books & Books creates a space for young people across Miami to share ideas and push back against expanding censorship. On the last Thursday of each month, we will meet at Books & Books in Coral Gables to create our community. The first meeting on August 31st will be an opportunity to meet each other and discuss what our collective reading will be. Some books might include: The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood, The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, A Streetcar Named Desire by Arthur Miller, Push by Sapphire, Maus I: A Survivor’s Tale: My Father Bleeds History by Art Spiegelman, The Absolute Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, Go Tell it on the Mountain by James Baldwin, Their Eyes Were Watching Gods by Zora Neale Hurston, and more. If you purchase the monthly book at Books & Books, let them know you’re in the club. You’ll get a discount. Looking forward!
This club is organized by Iris Mogul, an ambitious high school student, born and raised in Miami. Her passions include writing, reading, music, and activism. Her favorite authors include: Octavia Butler, James Baldwin, Ottessa Moshfegh, June Jordan, and Greg Tate.
