Discussing El silencio y la furia
Editorial Ultramar, the publishing division of the non-profit ArtesMiami, presents its newest poetry publication: El silencio y la furia by award-winning, Miami-based Cuban-American poet Lilliam Moro.
According to the editor of El silencio y la furia, literary critic and writer Luis de la Paz, these poems of have “a special ability to surprise…they grow, transform themselves, until they drill into the reader, who is absorbed by them.”
Lilliam Moro Nuñez was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1946. She studied in Instituto Pedagógico Makarenko and in the Faculty of Letters at The University of Havana. In 1965 her book of poems El extranjero (The Foreigner) won First Prize in a contest between the three universities of the island. She was part of the literary group Ediciones El Puente, and professor of literature at pre-university level. Her reviews and poems were published in the Cuban newspapers. In 1970 she left Cuba and lived in Spain for four decades, where she worked in the editorial and graphic arts fields. In 2011 she moved to Miami.
Lilliam has published the following books of poetry: La cara de la guerra (The Face of the War) (Madrid, 1972), Poemas del 42 (Poems of 42) (Madrid, 1989), Cuaderno de La Habana (Havana Notebook) (Madrid, 2005), Obra poética casi completa (Poetic Work Almost Complete) (Miami, 2013), Contracorriente (Counter-Current), winner of the prestigious international prize “Pilar Fernández Labrador”, Salamanca, Spain, 2017. Her novel En la boca del lobo (In the Wolf Mouth) won the Villanueva del Pardillo Prize, Madrid, Spain, 2004 and was published that year.
She is also the author of several critical essays of classic Spanish literary works, like Miguel de Cervantes’ El Quijote, and numerous articles of culture and literary critic.
