Within the pages of this beautifully designed book, you will discover a breathtaking collection of images by award winning wildlife and conservation photographer Laura Crawford Williams. Wildlife in Wild Lands is the result of her work with scores of conservation-minded professionals and organizations during 8 years of travel in the most remote areas of countries such as Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, and Brazil. The 244-page bi-lingual book is the first of its kind to assemble such a diverse collection of animals found within the Southern Cone, many unknown to the rest of the world. Six chapters contain 150 stunning photographs of 113 different species; each with thought provoking captions describing behavior, conservation challenges and status. An additional chapter, titled Between Frames, shares photos and stories of her incredible adventures with her team in the field. Laura s passion for preserving earth’s wildlife and wild lands shines on each colorful page. There is no doubt, Wildlife in Wild Lands will inspire present and future generations through its beauty, thought provoking content, and philosophic musings. More importantly, it will promote and reinforce the message that the balance between progress and conservation can be achieved. President Mauricio Macri of Argentina joins Laura s call to action. In the foreword, he writes: The richness that surrounds us is changing at an accelerated speed. The planet is undergoing significant changes due to human activities. This context of climate change and extinction crisis obligates us to think in new paradigms. It is essential to understand that ecology is not at odds with development. For those who work in conservation, especially in southern South America, it is a true labor of love. This book honors their dedication and sacrifice in addition to celebrating the unique wildlife found in one of the most diverse, amazing, and dramatic places on Earth.

About the Author:

Before becoming a professional photographer, Laura Crawford Williams earned undergraduate degrees in visual art as well as scientific illustration. For advanced studies, she attended The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed a master s degree in biomedical art. When combined with her professional experience designing and producing software, Laura has developed a unique blend of scientific knowledge, technical expertise, and visual skill. This interesting mix gave her the advantage she needed to become successful in the competitive world of professional wildlife and conservation photography. Laura s reputation as a world-class wildlife photographer is undeniable. She s earned multiple national and international photography awards, been published by National Geographic magazine, and exhibited in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. In 2015, she was published beside many of the world s best wildlife and nature photographers – in Sublime Nature: Photographs that Awe and Inspire, produced by National Geographic Books. These examples are only a few of the impressive accolades she s acquired. Her mission as a wildlife, nature, and conservation photographer is clear: I believe that every human is born with a sense of wonder and an attraction to all things natural. This connection either develops into an ecological conscience or is forgotten as we mature. It is up to those of us who know we cannot live without wild things to inspire those who believe they can.
