About the book:
Join Papan and Vanessa on a baking adventure and get ready to bake some delicious bread while you travel from Spain to France to Cuba and back again—all before the kitchen timer dings. Learn while kneading, dancing, singing, and hearing stories from the past that help shape Vanessa’s present and future!
Based on a true story, this is how Vanessa, when she was a little girl, learned to bake bread with her grandfather, Papan, and how she also learned about her grandpa’s story, which was also hers!
Baking bread requires a lot of patience. Some of it is about mixing ingredients together, and another part—a big part—of it is about waiting. Waiting while the dough rises, rests, rises, bakes. What makes baking between Vanessa and Papan fun is that Papan tells the amazing adventures of his life while they wait, and Vanessa listens! In this storytelling, Vanessa learns about her roots, and the power of love and family, and how stories can carry us through no matter what.
