Books & Books and Miami Book Fair present…

An Evening with Poets Bob Holman, Rose Lesniak, Oscar Fuentes and Oscar Musibay

Tuesday, October 25, 6:30 PM | IN-PERSON at Books & Books, Coconut. Grove

Magic City-favorite, Oscar Fuentes, The Biscayne Poet himself, is joined on stage by collaborating writer Oscar Musibay, as they welcome to Miami the legendary founding poet of the Bowery Poetry Club, Bob Holman, and lifelong friend and performance poet, Rose Lesniak.

Bob will perform poems from his book, “Sing this One Back to Me.” Rose will steal the spotlight on the B&B stage with readings from, “What The Dogs Tell Me.” And the two Oscars will duel with stories, reading from their newly published collection “For the Love of Leotards.” (And there might be music.)

About the Speakers:

Bob Holman is an American poet and poetry activist, most closely identified with the oral tradition, the spoken word, and poetry slam. As a promoter of poetry in many media, Holman has spent the last four decades working variously as an author, editor, publisher, performer, emcee of live events, director of theatrical productions, producer of films and television programs, record label executive, university professor, and archivist. He was described by Henry Louis Gates Jr. in The New Yorker as “the postmodern promoter who has done more to bring poetry to cafes and bars than anyone since Ferlinghetti.” His latest project is the YouTube series, Poetry is Bread, where Holman talks to America’s most prominent poets to highlight vitality of the form in everyday life.

Rose Lesniak was born in Chicago. She graduated from Northeastern Illinois University with degrees in Education and Psychology. She founded Out There Productions, a poetic networking organization, and produced award-winning poetry videos and live shows. Her work appears in Partisan Review, Poets’ Encyclopedia, and featured in John Giorno’s “Life is a Killer.” Her books include “Young Anger” and “Throwing Spitballs at the Nuns.” After a career as a child abuse investigator, she transitioned into canine consultancy and dog training. Her latest book, “What the Dogs Tell Me,” reflects her ongoing interest in both dogs and poetry.

Oscar Fuentes, aka The Biscayne Poet, is a multidisciplinary artist based in Miami. He is the author of seven books of poetry and prose: “Beautiful Women Will Never Know” (2013) , “4 Nights With Betsy” (2014) , “Vagabond: Selected Poems, Short Stories and Plays” (2015), “Welcome Home: Poems inspired by 1Hotel South Beach” (2019) , Illustrated zine publication, “Body Furnace” (2021) Illustrated zine publication, “The Cook Fight” (2022) “MY Heart Points Back” (2022) Oscar is represented by Eaton Literary Agency, and uses typewriter tape for a mustache.

Oscar Musibay, aka Varadero The Writer, has been spitting stories since a gang of chain-smoking nuns made him a barker in their traveling, charity carnival. Searching for new adventures, he became and award-winning journalist for more than 15 years and has been published in daily newspapers, magazines and online. “For the Love of Leotards: is his first published work of creative writing, “and that’s the double truth, Ruth.”
