About the Event:

Whether your soup is a meal in itself or a light starter, it is always comforting. For chefs Joris Bijdendijk and Samuel Levie, soup is the regular guest in many memories: a comforting bowl of broth when they were ill, steaming cups or cold gazpacho when there was something to celebrate, or that first time they made their own fish stock as young chefs…

During the pandemic—when restaurants closed, the creative sector struggled, and care workers were working overtime—this Dutch duo was in real need of some comfort. They launched their own tinned soup, SNERT, and soon, their shared love of soup took on outrageous proportions, including a 500-serving Freedom Meal and a national campaign with the Food Bank. Good Soup is their ode to soup in all its forms. With fifty-two recipes for comfort all year round, not a week can go by without a delicious bowl.

This National Soup Month, every purchase of Good Soup contributes to supporting local women’s shelter Lotus House.

Sheltering 1,550+ women, youth, and children annually, Lotus House is the largest women’s shelter in the country. Based in Miami, the mission at Lotus House is to improve the lives of women, youth, and children experiencing homelessness by providing sanctuary, support, education, tools, and resources that empower them to improve the quality of their lives on every level, achieve greater self-sufficiency, and build safe, secure lives.

About the Authors:

Chef Joris Bijdendijk has cooked together three Michelin stars in eight years. He promotes the cuisine of the Low Countries, characterized by his use of Dutch products.

Samuel Levie is a sausage maker at Brandt & Levie and co-founder of the Food Cabinet campaign agency. He is the author of several cookbooks and a columnist at several Amsterdam-based daily newspapers.
