Alterations is the winner of the 2018 Rane Arroyo Chapbook Series, published by Seven Kitchens Press and in honor of the vision of poet and teacher Rane Arroyo. These poems are set in Patagonia, Chile, “a last wild place” where the author spent 14 months living and teaching English in a national park-in-progress; likewise, the writings are ruminations on progress, falling in and out of love with people and myths, andquite literallyfalling in general. Much like Lorca’s Romancero Gitano, these poems focus on a region and people that hold much mystery and lore, the fine line between freedom and isolation, and the quest to find oneself where one does not belong.
