About the Artist:

Abel Quintero is one of the most interesting contemporary Cuban artists, with over three decades as a working artist. Born in the local village of Güines south of Hav ana, he moved to Miami in 2009 where his artistic career has continued to flourish. His figurative paintings are inspired by the naive, country life, folk art and culture that surrounded the lush place of birth and the fantastical characters that he discovered and hear tales of throughout his childhood. He has exhibited his works in Havana, Miami, Panama, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Spain to name a few.

This exhibition at Books & Books “The Magic and Mystery of My Cuba. Characters, Myths and Legends of the Cuban countryside”  consist of twenty works of oil on canvas, in which Quintero explores this magical and challenging world of his childhood and adolescence. His works “The Rape of Aurora” and “The Old Man and the Sea” are based on Hemingway works- are the jewels of this exhibition.

Quintero’s work is very closely related to literature and the story-telling traditions from his youth. He is also a writer and he will be publishing of his first short story in the exhibition’s catalogue, The Bluish Owl, which is also the title of his first novel which he intends to publish this year.  Furthermore he is also a talented song writer

On the opening night of the exhibition, April 6,2018 he will exhibit an addfitiopnal 20 – 30 works in the beautiful courtyard of Books & Books along with music provided by brilliant Cuban composer, Papo Delgado from 7:30 to 11:30 PM.
