“Capturing the expression is everything…….It’s the gateway to the soul”

The ARCHITECT SERIES is a monochromatic representation of the classical figures that have influenced Architecture and their enigmatic genius. She captures their essence and their personalities in her use of graphite and charcoal on paper.

About the Artist:

Ana Trelles Portuondo is a contemporary portrait artist and an Art educator with a B.A. in Fine Art and Education from FIU in 1989. She was born in Havana, Cuba in 1960 and fled its Communist regime when she was 8 months old. Ana settled in Miami, Florida and has built a life for herself with her talented, Architect husband by her side.

She was an art teacher for more than twenty years in several Miami based schools. She is now pursuing her art career as a full time artist.

Her artistic passion is derived from her cultural roots; painting and drawing a variety of themes such as roosters, Afro-Cuban women, sacred art, and other characters that are romantic, spiritual, as well as heroic in nature, and transforming them into figures of strength, elegance, and grandeur. Reflections of Cuban culture are repeated in her work and have become a part of her artistic identity.

She works in acrylic paints, graphite, Cuban coffee, as well as mixed media and collage, seeking inspiration from other classically trained artists such as Picasso and Kahlo

“As an artist, wife of an architect and mother of 4, I have always been surrounded by creativity….Our household runs on it.”

With her career spanning over 30 years, her work has been exhibited in many venues including resident artist for The Archive Gallery in the Gables and private homes of collectors.
