Our gallery exhibition in December, A Lover’s Surreal Account, will be composed of original paintings, drawings and watercolors by Enrique Sendra. The main ingredient in these pieces: surrealism. The art on display will be figurative with a recurring character in many of the pieces, a man on stilts named Ialtusan alter ego of the artist. The name is constructed of the words I in English and Altus in Latin elevated (meaning I am elevated). Sendra’s hope is: that the viewer will allow their souls and minds soar wildly through his creations dated from 2009 to present day.

About the Artist:

Enrique Sendra was born in Havana, Cuba in 1982. His passion for art was obvious from an early age. With the support and encouragement of his loved ones, he was able to develop his talent by attending workshops and creating alongside other artists. In 1999, Sendra enrolled in Taller De Figueroa, his first professional art school, where he was able to learn art in a structured way. In 2000 at the age of 18, Enrique presented his first solo exhibition in the Amelia Pelaez Gallery in Havana. The following year Enrique immigrated to the U.S.

In the United States, Enrique’s work has been shown in various spaces. He has participated in numerous group and solo art exhibitions. In 2006, he became the apprentice to contemporary Cuban Master, David Rodríguez. He has been recognized by several mayors and commissioners in Miami-Dade County for his participation in the Arts in South Florida. He has received various honorary awards and has been featured on local news channels and periodicals. Enrique Sendra resides in Miami, Florida and continues to produce new pieces of art.
