Christina Sendiña Garbati and Angelica Gonzalez
About the Authors:
Christina Sendiña Garbati, MS, LMHC
Christina has over ten years of experience working as a therapist specializing in trauma and eating disorders and has extensive training in TF-CBT , EMDR and play therapy. She specializes in the treatment of eating disorders, body image dissatisfaction, trauma, abuse, depression, anxiety, parenting and behavior management and ADHD. She utilizes a variety of evidence based treatments, interventions, and coping skills in tailoring her client’s treatment in order to fit their needs.
She completed her master’s degree at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts in 2007 and quickly began to follow her calling to work with children and adolescents with trauma at Kristi House, a non- profit organization in Miami, Fl. Here, she specialized in the treatment of trauma in children and adolescents. Prior to opening her private practice in 2013, Christina worked at Oliver-Pyatt Centers, as a primary and family therapist in their Residential Program program.
She then headed their Intensive Outpatient Program where she developed a passion for helping her patients re-integrate themselves into their lives following treatment. Christina believes that it is essential for patients who experience eating disorders to become able to tap into the non-cognitive aspects of their experience, and is known for helping patients become able to uncover the “heart” of their true selves.
Christina is passionate about helping her clients build their self esteem & self worth. Her previous training and experience has allowed her to help clients of all ages (from 3yrs+). She really enjoys connecting with others. It is a privilege for her to be a witness to someone’s healing and feels honored to be a part of their journey.
She brings warmth and grace into her clinical work. Her genuine spirit allows her to easily connect with others and meet them where they are at in their recovery journey. She helps others to develop their self-efficacy. Her loving boundaries help clients build personal accountability in their recovery.
Angelica Gonzalez, MSEd, LMHC
Angelica is a therapist in private practice for over a decade working with adolescents, young adults, adults, families and groups. Her emphasis is on treating eating disorders, trauma and related disorders. She began working in the field at Miami Children’s Hospital in the psychiatric ward & facilitating groups for clients that self injured. Angelica gained most of her experience in treating eating disorders while working with groups, families and individuals at an inpatient treatment center in Miami.
In 2013, she opened her private practice where she works with creative and evidence-based treatment including creative interventions, psychodrama, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. She is trained in psychodrama, attachment focused EMDR and uses creative therapy in most of her work. Angelica has spoken nationally and internationally on a variety of topics including, trauma, self-injury and eating disorders. She has taught Group Therapy to Master’s candidates at the University of Miami and most recently she was the Clinical Director of an eating disorder online support group: Lasting Freedom.
Angelica is passionate and dedicated in working with her clients. She believes in the importance of exploring “what will move them” into a healthier place. In doing so, she is able to effectively help heal the hearts of those that have been hurt. Angelica is fluent in Spanish, English and Portuguese. Her latest projects are the book Restored: A Biblical Healing Journey from Your Eating Disorder to Freedom & Eden: an outpatient program designed to help heal teens and adults with food issues where they work together within a group setting. The goal of Eden, is to help those who are open to allow God, scripture and group sharing, provide a healing environment that is safe and successful.
