This Sunday, April 23rd, Books & Books in Coral Gables joins forces with the Friends of Catalonia/Miami to celebrate our version of a beloved Catalonian holiday, La Diada de San Jordi(St. George’s Day). Historically, men gave women roses and women gave men a book to celebrate the occasion. In 1923, a bookseller drew attention to the holiday as a way to commemorate the nearly simultaneous deaths of Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare on 23 April 1616.
This year, we invite you to savor the tradition of La Diada St. Jordi inside the City Beautiful’s favorite bookstore where you will be able to browse books, combine them with roses, and give them to your friends, family and loved ones. We’ll have a special menu of typical Catalonian food and wines available for purchase at our Café, too.
