& Drink, which was named one of the country's top ten best new
restaurants in 2008 by Frank Bruni of the New York Times. In his first cookbook, Michael's Genuine Food: Down-to-Earth Cooking for People Who Love to Eat (Clarkson Potter, $35), he shares his recipes for the vibrant, unpretentious cuisine that's made his restaurant a must-visit culinary landmark. For tonight's launch party at Books & Books, we decided to turn the tables around and give Michael a break for once! Instead of having the author cook, we've invited a group of his most devoted supporters to make one of the dishes from his cookbook at home and bring them to Books & Books for a Down-to-Earth Potluck Dinner that everyone will enjoy! We couldn't think of a better way to celebrate a volume that is all about sharing great meals with the people we love, than to make this a collaborative effort. (His family is not off the hook, by the way!). Join us this evening for a sampling of many of the recipes from Michael's new book, as interpreted by friends and family, including Braised Chicken, Leg of Lamb, Carmelized Onion Panade, Fregola Risotto, Cheese Grits & Pickled Onions, Kingfish Escabiche, Lentil Stew, Beet & Tomato Salad, Ceviche, Caponata, Greek Farro, Pork Loin, Pear-Parsley Salad, Crab & Grapefruit Salad, Sweet & Spicy Pork Belly – a veritable feast of food (and special drinks) served potluck-style in the Books & Books courtyard, to follow Michael's talk and signing, with live music by Escaleno until midnight. Party starts at 7pm!
