Star Child (Vineyard, $16.95)  by Kay Goldstein, written in a fairy tale genre similar to The Little Prince and The Alchemist is a book for young and mature adults. It explores in a simple and poetic way the challenges facing two "star children,"Terra and Marius, on their journey to learn about being human. Set in a faraway time and place, they confront the same problems of modern humans: fear, loneliness, the need to please, and the stigma of showing their true selves when they do not fit in with those around them. Betraying their own hearts, each gives up or misuses the very things, the special powers that make them unique. 

Henry Ford is remembered in American lore as the ultimate entrepreneur—the man who invented assembly-line manufacturing and made automobiles affordable. Largely forgotten is his side career as a publisher of antisemitic propaganda. Henry Ford's War on Jews and the Legal Battle Against Hate Speech (Stanford U. Press, $63.25) by Victoria Saker Woeste is the story of Ford's ownership of the Dearborn Independent, his involvement in the defamatory articles it ran, and the two Jewish lawyers, Aaron Sapiro and Louis Marshall, who each tried to stop Ford's war. Using never-before-discovered evidence from archives and private family collections, this study reveals the depth of Ford's involvement in every aspect of this case and explains why Jewish civil rights lawyers and religious leaders were deeply divided over how to handle Ford. Join us for a multi-media presentation featuring rare images of the events and players in Sapiro v. Ford with a Q&A and discussion with the author. This event is presented in collaboration with The Fellows of the American Bar Association, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, and Temple Judea. 7:30pm

John Martin's Irish Pub & Restaurant will celebrate its 22nd Annual "St. Patty's Day” event this evening from 5pm to Midnight. Join us at Books & Books on Aragon Avenue where we'll be serving beer at 3 bars in our courtyard, featuring Guinness Black Lager, Corona, Magic Hat #9 and Monk in a Trunk, along with a standard selection of wines at the main bar and a limited food menu. Street Closures/Alley Access: Salzedo from Miracle Mile to Giralda will close at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 15th. Aragon will be closed from Salzedo east to the entrance of the Museum Parking Garage. The alley will be accessible from the Ponce side after 10 AM. Miracle Mile remains open at all times. Police will be stationed at closed intersections at all times.

The Transition Blues Band is a local band featuring Maurizio Passariello & Izzy Buholzer on guitars and vocals, and Gary Urban on harmonicas and flute. All three musicians studied and performed traditional American Blues, country, and bluegrass for more than 25 years. Their evening performance transitions between the pre-war Delta blues and country blues, urban blues of the 1920s and post World War II Chicago blues, as well as spirituals and blues-rock popularized in the 1960s and 1970's, all while interweaving classic songs from the genres of popular country, bluegrass and R&B. For a special night filled with high energy and deep emotion that is sure to both surprise and satisfy, you won't want to miss the Transition Blues Band.

FOR TEACHERS, LIBRARIANS, PARENTS: Our very own kid's book expert, Becky Quiroga Curtis along with Random House representative, Sarah Nasif talk to teachers about the best books for gifted students. The discussion will include books for children of all ages and will deal specifically with literature to help students deal with problems and overcome adversity.  All teachers, librarians, and parents are welcome to attend. There will be giveaways for all in attendance. 6:30pm

Amitav Ghosh is one of India's best-known writers. Born in Calcutta, he studied in Delhi, Alexandria, and Oxford, where he earned a doctorate in Anthropology. Ghosh's books include The Circle of Reason, The Shadow Lines, In An Antique Land, Dancing in Cambodia, The Calcutta Chromosome, The Glass Palace, Incendiary Circumstances, The Hungry Tide as well as Sea of Poppies and The River of Smoke which are the first two volumes of the Ibis trilogy. Tonight, Ghosh will give a talk titled, "Speaking of Babel: The Risks and Rewards of Writing about Polyglot Worlds”.
