SOLD OUT -- President Bill Clinton -- Back to Work -- Gables
Start: 4:30 pm
THIS EVENT IS NOW SOLD-OUT.  This means we’ve pre-sold as many vouchers (to be exchanged for the signed book) as President Clinton will be able to sign that day. Everyone who has purchased a voucher at one of our locations, by phone, or online, will be able to attend the autographing. You will need to show your voucher in order to enter the autographing line, so please remember to bring it with you. Books & Books is NOT responsible for lost or stolen vouchers. You will need to show your voucher in order to receive a wristband that guarantees a signed book. All books will be handed out inside the autographing room and not anytime before. President Clinton will sign each book, but WILL NOT be able to date or personalize. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE START TIME OF THIS EVENT HAS BEEN MOVED UP TO 4:30PM. The event will begin promptly at 4:30pm. The AUTOGRAPHING LINE will form outside the front entrance of the Gables bookstore beginning at 2pm. It’s best for you to wait until that time to arrive, as we will not be able to accommodate you before then. There is a parking garage across the street but we will not be able to validate parking tickets today. There is also metered parking available on city streets surrounding the store. If you ALREADY HAVE your VOUCHER, you may go straight to the BAG CHECK area to check your bags. Then, proceed to the autographing line. All items/bags/purses must be checked. NO items will be permitted in line past bag check. (No cameras, pens, photos, other books, gifts, phones, etc.) If you are picking up your voucher at WILL CALL, you may arrive as early as 2pm. You will then go to the will call area outside the store, claim your voucher, check your bags and find your place in the autographing line. If you WERE NOT ABLE to get a voucher: There will be a small stand-by line for anyone who wants to wait until all wristbands have been handed out in the autographing line to see if there is any ability to accommodate you. No one in this line is guaranteed entry or an autographed book, but you can take your chances, if you are willing to wait. Remember: You can still purchase Back to Work at Books & Books, or online, but he will not be able to autograph your copy. Please note: The Café at Books & Books will be closed starting at 2pm on Thursday, December 1st and will re-open sometime after the President has left premises. There will be bottled water and sodas ($1) available for purchase. The Café will be making runs down the autographing line for your convenience. Please remember to bring cash that you can keep in your pockets with you. The store restroom will also be closed starting at 2pm that day. All tables and customers must be cleared on by 2pm.MEDIA ALERT: Media is welcome to attend the signing. Those of you who have contacted us in advance are on a special press list. Please proceed to the press check-in area. You will then be led as a group by staff to a pre-constructed press area inside of the signing room where you will be allowed to cover the event for a brief period of time. You will then be escorted out of the signing by staff and will not be allowed to remain the store once the photo opportunity has ended. Yet, you may interview people outside the store. We thank you for honoring these guidelines and look forward to seeing you tomorrow!  Unfortunately, we are now SOLD OUT of vouchers for President Clinton's event. We cannot accept any orders at this time. If you click on the BUY button, you will NOT receive a voucher -- and you will NOT get a signed book. We have reached the maximum. Thanks for your interest...
Sue Monk Kidd -- The Secret Life of Bees -- Museum of Art
Start: 6:00 pm
To celebrate the tenth anniversary of Sue Monk Kidd's first novel, The Secret Life of Bees (Penguin, $20) , Penguin presents a beautiful special edition of this major literary triumph. Set in South Carolina in 1964, The Secret Life of Bees tells the story of Lily Owens, whose life has been shaped around the blurred memory of the afternoon her mother was killed. When Lily's fierce-hearted "stand-in mother," Rosaleen, insults three of the town's fiercest racists, Lily decides they should both escape to Tiburon, South Carolina--a town that holds the secret to her mother's past. There they are taken in by an eccentric trio of black beekeeping sisters who introduce Lily to a mesmerizing world of bees, honey, and the Black Madonna who presides over their household. This is a remarkable story about divine female power and the transforming power of love.
